Teresa Cobarrubia Yoder, musician, teacher and composer is the pastoral music director for Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hampton and a founding member of Musica Intima, a chamber trio. She taught high school music at Walsingham Academy, Williamsburg, VA. Under her direction, the students performed around the world including the 2008 Pre-Olympics festivities in Beijing and Shanghai, China and for the 2012 Olympics in London, England, as well as various liturgies with both Pope Benedict and in 2014, Pope Francis. Teresa studied composition with John Davye and piano with Elizabeth Pappas at Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA. During three summer institutes, she studied conducting and sang under the direction of Paul Salamunovich. In 2002, Teresa attended a summer choral seminar at Julliard, studying with Judith Clurman.
Teresa’s compositions and arrangements have been performed at the Virginia Music Educators Conference, Old Dominion University, University of Richmond, Scherzo Music Club, Tidewater Music Teachers Forum and various churches and schools in Virginia, Ohio, Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia and New York. She also conducted choral workshops and assisted with the music for various Diocese of Richmond functions and served on the Diocese of Richmond Liturgical Commission. In 1995, Teresa was awarded a grant from NASA for study with the Virginia Institute of Technology. She was also awarded a grant from the Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce for a study with her students on implementing music technology with colonial tavern music. In 2002, Teresa was awarded another Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce grant for a study on Native American Indian music and dance with her students. She also was presented with the St. Vincent College Outstanding Teacher Award for 2002. In 2012, she received grant from the Junior Women’s Club of Williamsburg. She has been awarded commissions for her compositions including her work for the Williamsburg Women’s Chorus.
Teresa resides in Williamsburg, VA with her husband Gene in their home they built together.
